All political parties recognise the need for their candidates and MPs to reflect the society they are representing. However, just as in other arenas, such as business, successful applicants tend to be the same type of people as are in the organisation already. White middle class males employ other white middle class males. Some businesses have recognised the value in breaking out of this mould. New people mean new ideas, creativity and challenges to the existing order. Not all have been ready to accept his but forward thinking ones have. Maybe businesses can offer the political parties a lesson or two on the value of diversity in recruitment.
